Arrested members of Meghalaya’s National Liberation Council of Nongkyndong produced in court

As many as 3 members of the newly formed Meghalaya militant outfit National Liberation Council of Nongkyndong (NLCN) were produced before a local court in Shillong today. These three members were arrested from Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district on Thursday.
One self-styled area commander of East Khasi Hills district and another two were arrested from West Jaintia Hills district. Earlier the police had arrested around 7 leaders of the outfit.
Based on intel inputs police launched multiple operations on August 17 and arrested 7 leaders of the outfit besides a juvenile who was picked up from the East Khasi Hills district.
Police had received credible intelligence that the new militant outfit was being formed in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region to wage war against the government and to commit unlawful activities like procuring arms and ammunition, extortion, recruiting and training of armed cadres, establishing camps and conspiring to commit terrorist acts.
