77th I-Day: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma bats for peace, reiterates commitment to resolve border issue

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma informed that the peace process with HNLC is progressing in the right direction
On the historic occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today focussed on peace, finding a lasting solution to the Assam-Meghalaya border and green energy solutions for the state among other issues of concern to the people of the state.
In his address to the state celebrating the spirit of nationalism Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the peace process with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) is progressing in the right direction.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Maintenance of law and order is the foundation for all economic and social activity. The overall Law and Order situation in the State has been by and large peaceful. The formal peace talks between the HNLC, Government of India and the State government are making steady progress. I urge all citizens and organizations to continue to collaborate with the government in preserving the peace and harmony in our beautiful State.”
The Meghalaya Chief Minister also touched upon the inter-state border Issue with Assam. He said, “Last year, we signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the state of Assam in the presence of the Union Home Minister as a first step towards resolving the Meghalaya-Assam interstate boundary dispute. Our government is committed to resolving the dispute in the remaining six areas of difference: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Desh Doomreah, Block 1 & Block 2, and Psiar-Khanduli. Regional Committees constituted for these six areas of difference have already conducted multiple meetings and have met their Assam counterparts to take the talks forward.”
CM Sangma unfurled the tricolour at Polo Ground in Shillong. Cultural performances, performances by school students were the highlights of the 77th Independence Day celebrations in Meghalaya.
