Meghalaya: CM Sangma refuses to comment on charge sheeting of NPP MLA in corruption case

National People’s Party national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today refused to comment on the recent chargesheeting of NPP MLA Sanjay A Sangma by the Meghalaya Lokayukta in a corruption case regarding construction.

The NPP MLA from Mahendraganj constituency Sanjay A Sangma is one among the 12 persons, who have been charge-sheeted by the Meghalaya Lokayukta for non-completion of project for construction of Member Hostel at Tura at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

CM Conrad Sangma said that it is subjudice in nature so at this point in time it will not be possible for him to comment anything on this.

It may be mentioned here that Meghalaya State working president, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Youth Power of India, Kingstone Bolwari Sangma has filed a complaint against Sanjay A Sangma, 9 former members of the executive committee and a secretary of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and two contractors for non-completion of project for construction of Member Hostel at Tura.

As per reports, the amount mentioned above was allocated to the project under the Special Assistance of Central Plan Scheme for the fiscal year 2015-2016, whereby the Ministry of Finance released 100.71 Crore as Grant-in-Aid to GHADC to develop Schedule Tribe areas.

The Lokayukta conducted the preliminary investigation and found prima facie that there were irregularities in project implementation and was subsequently directed to conduct the detailed investigation.

Later, the Meghalaya Lokayukta chargesheeted these persons on the basis of the investigation report submitted by the Investigation Officer/Member of Inquiry Wing of the Lokayukta Anil Sangma.

The Member of the Lokayukta’s Inquiry Wing also filed the charge sheet and detailed investigation report to the Special Court in Tura, which issued an order taking cognizance of the matter, registered the case, and set the date for appearance on August 29.

The other charge-sheeted persons are: Former MDCs Augustine R Marak, former CEM GHADC-Denang T Sangma, Brillaint R Marak, Dolly K Sangma, Dipul R Marak,Bhupen Hajong Kurosh M Marak, Winninson Ch Marak and Sukaram K Sangma, Dolrich D Sangma; secretary of GHADC and Hewingson A Sangma.
