Tripura: AIDWA protest Manipur violence, demands CM’s resignation

The members of the CPIM women wing, All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) formed a human chain in Agartala today wearing black ribbons over their mouths as a mark of protest against the ongoing violence in Manipur.

They have also demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh for failing to protect women and children of his state as violence continues for three months now.

Talking to media, all India vice president of the AIDWA, Rama Das stated that the violence in Manipur has been a black mark for Indian civilization.

Referring to the viral video of two women paraded naked by a mob and allegedly gang-raped, Das alleged that in addition to that incident, more reports of gang rapes have been published, which are just some of the incidents exposed.

She alleged that there are several other similar incidents of violence against the Kuki women besides setting houses on fire and other cruel acts carried out by BJP supporters and in connivance with a section of the police.

Das said that the entire India is worried about what is happening in Manipur and are protesting against it including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud who said that if the Manipur government does not take appropriate steps immediately to stop what is going on there then the Apex Court will have to take suo moto case.

She also demanded the removal of N Biren Singh from the post of Chief Minister of Manipur besides investigation into the incidents of atrocities against women ins the state, exemplary punishment of the perpetrators, and compensation for the victims.

Similar protests were also organised by several other women’s organisations in Tripura against the ongoing violence in Manipur, especially against women.

Manipur is on the boil since May 3 after an ethenic class broke out between two communities.
Over 160 people have lost their lives, and over 70,000 people have been displaced by the violence during the past two months.
