Minor girl and a woman injured in an elephant attack in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills

The victims have been identified as--5-year-old Chisna S Sangma and 20-year-old Nokanchi S Sangma

A 5-year-old girl and a woman have been left grievously injured after they were attacked by an elephant in the Gasuapara border region of South Garo Hills in Meghalaya.

The victims have been identified as–5-year-old Chisna S Sangma and 20-year-old Nokanchi S Sangma, both residents of Gasuapara Sangkilakgre.

As per inputs, on Sunday evening, the woman and the minor girl came across a herd of elephants in Cherengpara village in South Garo Hills and started to run out of fear. One of the elephants chased them as they ran and attacked leaving them grievously injured.

The minor girl suffered a fracture on one of her legs, while the woman also sustained injuries. They both are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

It is suspected that the elephant herd had crossed over from neighbouring Bangladesh to the village.
