Assam: Swarm of caterpillars wreak havoc in Bongaigaon district

It was informed that caterpillars have severely affected agriculture giving farmers sleepless nights
Believe it or not swarm of caterpillars have unleashed terror in Assam’s Bongaigaon district.
This has instilled a sense of panic in the minds of people in the Manikpur area where caterpillars have infested the paddy fields and homes. In fact the affected people are using mosquito nets as a means to protect themselves.
One of the affected people said, “From the last 1 week there are caterpillars everywhere, be it the roads or the bed. While to sleep one can find caterpillars in the bed, table, and it even enters the hand pumps. We are having serious trouble. We will be happy if the government takes steps like spraying pesticide to deal with the situation.”
Another affected person said, “The swarm of caterpillars are wreaking havoc as it has damaged our jute, rice fields. It is also severly affecting our children. The government must look into the issue and the agriculture department must take adequate steps to save our cultivations.”
