The alleged case of student hooliganism came to light after a video capturing the savage attack went viral on various social media platforms
As many as three security guards have been suspended over the horrifying incident of violence on the premises of the National Institute Of Technology (NIT), Silchar, where three cooks were brutally assaulted by a group of students on charges of stealing a mobile phone.
Three security guards, who are from the Vanguard Security Service, have been suspended for alleged inaction when the incident took place on July 26 at Hostel No. 9 of the Institute. When the group of students assaulted cooks, the security personnel looked on as mute spectators.
As a result of the brutal attack, all three cooks suffered grievous injuries and were rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for immediate medical attention.
The alleged case of student hooliganism came to light after a video capturing the savage attack went viral on various social media platforms.
The suspension of the security guards is the first action that has been taken by the NIT Silchar authorities with regard to the incident. However, action is yet to be taken against the students who have been alleged to be involved in the incident.
An FIR was filed at Gungoor Outpost on Friday night, July 28 against 3 students and 4 security personnel.
Earlier one of the cooks identified as Rajkumar Dusad, stated that they approached the management after the incident, however, no steps were taken despite assurances.
Dusad said that on the fateful night, some students without informing the manager of the hostel, came inside the room, took three of them and started beating them accusing them of stealing a mobile phone. What is more shocking here is that two security personnel of the institute reached the spot where the thrashing was taking place. But instead of intervening, they remained as mute spectators.
The incident has caused a sensation as it has highlighted a stark case of student hooliganism within the premises of a premier education institute like NIT Silchar.
