Assam man chops his wife’s hand; hides severed hand under bed

A day after Assam government announced that the number of registered crimes against women have dropped by 51% in the state, a horrific incident of violence against woman has come to light from Tezpur, Assam, where a husband chopped his wife’s hand with a machete.
What’s more shocking is, to hide the incident, the accused husband, identified as Nizam Ali, hid the severed hand of his wife under the bed.
The victim has been identified as Mamta Khatun. The incident took place at Balichapori, Marabharali, in Tezpur.
The locals, after receiving information about the incident, handed over the accused to the police.
Mamta Khatun, who has been seriously injured in the incident, has been admitted to the hospital.
The whole matter started after Nizam Ali had a fight with his first wife, after which he committed the heinous crime.
Assam Chief Minister disclosed on Friday, that the number of registered crimes against women in Assam plummeted from 29,046 cases in 2021 to a significantly lower figure of 14,030 cases in 2022.
