Assam, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, achieved a momentous milestone in curbing crimes against women, with a staggering 51% reduction in reported incidents.

The Chief Minister disclosed this on Friday, attributing the success to a series of proactive steps taken by the Assam police to ensure women’s safety and empowerment in the state.

According to official data, the number of registered crimes against women in Assam plummeted from 29,046 cases in 2021 to a significantly lower figure of 14,030 cases in 2022.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted some of the key initiatives that have contributed to this positive development. Among the crucial steps taken by the Assam police were the Special cells for women, tech-based investigation, faster prosecution and having a multi-stakeholder approach
