Disheartened by PM Modi’s silence on our plight: Internally displaced Manipuris

The IDPs expressed their frustration and disappointment with the lack of attention from the government
In a bid to draw attention to their plight and appeal for immediate action, the Internally Displaced People (IDP) from Sugnu and Serou under the Kakching District of Manipur organized a Peace Rally and Sit-in Protest at Kakching Bazar today.
With a resounding call to be allowed to return to their respective homes, the IDPs emphasized the urgent need for security and the restoration of peace in the troubled region. They also directed their plea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to respond to the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.
The IDPs, who had sought shelter in various relief camps within Kakching, expressed their frustration and disappointment with the lack of attention from the government.
Speaking on behalf of the displaced individuals, a member of the Sugnu IDP community highlighted their grievances and the apparent silence from Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“I want to say that on May 3, Kuki militants who came from Myanmar attacked our people in Manipur. Many lives were lost, and houses were burned down. However, until now, our honourable Prime Minister has not addressed the situation or provided any assistance to the people of our state,” expressed the member of the IDP group.
The community member further emphasized their disillusionment by stating that even after Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Manipur on June 29 and observed the situation firsthand, no response or solution has been presented.
The IDPs expressed their disappointment that despite being part of India, they have received little support or intervention in the 70 days since the attacks took place.
“Earlier, when the Prime Minister visited our state, he promised to protect our people, but till now, nothing substantial has been done, which has left us disheartened,” added the IDP representative.
The IDPs alleged the Myanmar Kuki militants for the attacks on their communities and voiced their loss of trust in them. They stressed their desire for peace and the ability to lead a normal life, away from the conflict that has disrupted their existence.
The IDP community appealed to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate action and provide a lasting solution to the unrest in Manipur. They emphasized the urgency of the situation and called for swift measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected population.
