The All Nagaland Ad Hoc Teachers Group’s resumed its hunger strike today outside the office of the Directorate of Education in Kohima.

The demand drafted by the All Nagaland Ad Hoc Teachers on June 27 did not get much positive response from the Government and the teachers’ group has therefore collectively now resolved to resume their indefinite hunger strike from today until their sole demand, that is regularisation of jobs is fulfilled.

The agitating teachers also served an ultimatum to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the State Chief Secretary to resolve their issue at the earliest.

The Ad hoc teachers of the 2015 Batch have been exercising their democratic form of protest in phase-wise manner since April 16. Starting from pen down strike, to boycotting classes and peaceful sit-in protest to placard demonstration at the Directorate of School Education, these teachers, some of them pregnant women, have gone through it all.

The Ad hoc Teachers were appointed on an emergency basis by the State Govt and according to the service rules, if they fulfil all the criteria, there services will be regularised but although the Ad hoc teachers have been rendering their service for the last 8 years, their service has not been regularised yet.
