Little did Samir Deb, a youth living near Bhagalpur village in the outskirts of Agartala know that objecting to his neighbourhood being used to smuggle drugs to Bangladesh would get him beaten up black and blue and land him in a hospital bed with broken arm and other severe injuries.
The youth was physically assaulted by the drug smugglers for protesting against the use of his residential area for smuggling drugs into Bangladesh. He was rushed to the hospital in Narshinghar but later shifted to GB Hospital because of the serious nature of his injuries.
Samir mentioned that a local drug dealer named Prasenjit Paul has been utilizing the area to smuggle various drugs, including ganja, cough syrups, and Yaba tablets, into Bangladesh.
Samir recently voiced his opposition to the drugs smuggling and asked Prasenjit to refrain from using his house area, as it could attract attention and unnecessary potential charges from the Border Security Force (BSF).
The notorious drug smuggler, Prasenjit along with his father Parimal Paul and younger brother Charanjit Paul, allegedly attacked Samir with sticks, resulting in severe injuries. The attackers also suspected that Samir and his family had informed the BSF about their illegal activities.
