Mizoram Assembly secretariat cancelled the recent recruitment of 11 employees after students protested outside the Assembly on Friday and planned to continue the agitation in alleged nepotism case.
Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), or Mizo student’s federation, and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) organized a protest rally in front of the Assembly House on Friday and picketed the employees from attending the office, saying that the recent recruitment was stark and shameless nepotism.
The student bodies have accused top officials, including Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo and Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat Lalhmahruaia Zote, of indulging in serious nepotism in the recruitment of these employees.
Of the 11 newly recruited people, nine are close relatives of Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo, Assembly Secretary Lalhmahruaia Zote, and other senior officials, the students alleged.
They demanded the cancellation of the appointments of those recruited and the formulation of a new set of rules for recruitment in the department.
It was believed that state Chief Minister Zoramthanga intervened in the matter, resulting in the cancellation of the entire recruitment.
Student leaders met on Friday evening with Zoramthanga and asked him to intervene in the issue, to which the latter agreed to take appropriate action.
