Assam: Dibrugarh Univ student die in car crash

A student of Dibrugarh University lost his life while 4 others were left critically injured in a horrific car accident that took place at Jamugurihat in Assam’s Sonitpur district this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Luku Sharma.

As per inputs, the accident occurred when the car that they were travelling in rammed into a tipper truck from behind. They were reportedly on their way to Mangaldoi from Dibrugarh when the tragic mishap took place.

Those injured in the mishap are undergoing treatment at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed concern over the spike in number of accident cases in the state and the fatalities caused by it.

Sharing his thoughts, the Assam Chief Minister took to Twitter and said, “In June 23, the number of road traffic accidents increased compared to June 22. There were a total of 555 accidents, compared to 500 in June 2022. Additionally, the number of fatalities increased to 255, compared to 235 last year.
I am deeply concerned.”

In one of the worst accident cases this year, seven students of Assam Engineering College (AEC) were killed in a road accident that took place in Guwahati’s Jalukbari area during the wee hours of May 29.
