The mystery surrounding the death of Sikkim student leader Padam Gurung seems to be deepening further.
Every passing day, there’s a new angle in Padam Gurung’s death case that is emerging. The latest one is an audio clip that has now gone viral where Padam Gurung’s brother is heard speaking over the phone with a girl who claims to be an eyewitness to the entire incident and is narrating the incident, which unfolded on the fateful night of June 26.
The girl claimed that she and a few of her friends were with Padam Gurung on the night of June 26.
“We were at Crossroads with two of my friends and with some junior boys. After some time, Padam came there, and he seemed very drunk. One more guy was there who was in college uniform. The owner of the restaurant, Keshav, asked the guy to open the college uniform, but he denied it. It was already 11:30, and in fear of the cops, we were about to leave when we saw two girls fighting. I had sent one of my friends to the ATM and was waiting with my friends inside. We were inside the restaurant while the owner of the restaurant, Keshav, closed the shutter, and we watched the hustle and bustle from the window,” the eyewitness told Gurung’s brother over the phone.
The girl also claimed that the owner of the restaurant hit Padam with a blow, following which Padam fell unconscious.
“After some time, we saw that Keshav said something to Padam, and they started fighting when Padam was given a blow that made him fall from the top of the stairs. It seemed like Keshav hit Padam with his knuckles because even if he was drunk, no one falls that easily with a blow. After that, Keshav tried to put him up, but he didn’t turn up. Later he called the waiters for help, and they carried Padam up when we could see that he was unconscious,” the eyewitness further narrated.
The girl further claimed that Padam was later carried off in a Hyundai car.
“Later they called a Hyundai car, which was chocolate in colour, and Padam was taken down towards Kazitar instead of taking him to the hospital, which is up. Later, Keshav came and asked me to go from the backside and didn’t even open the shutter,” the eyewitness said.
“He would have survived if they had taken him to the hospital, but they went down. It seemed like he was beaten and thrown in the drain because no one dies with a blow. The person who was driving the car was fair and had coloured his hair. The CCTV footage has been deleted, and we are only shown in the video.”
The government has set up a special committee to investigate the death of the student leader.
Yesterday, Sikkim Special DGP Akshay Sachdeva visited the site where Gurung’s body was found.
