The TIPRA Employees Federation (TEF) organised a rally in Khumulwng on Thursday to protest against the irregular release of salaries and pensions for TTAADC employees and pensioners.
The President of TEF, Sunil Kaloi, expressed concern over the consistent delays in receiving salaries and pensions over the past few months and said that the delays have placed financial burdens on the employees, making it challenging for them to meet their daily needs, fulfil financial obligations, and support their families.
Kaloi emphasised that timely salaries are not just a legal obligation but also a way to demonstrate respect and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the employees.
He further highlighted that employees rely on their salaries to repay various loans, making the delayed disbursement a violation of their basic human rights.
In protest against this injustice, the TEF organized a demonstration, drawing the participation of hundreds of TTAADC employees.
At the conclusion of the rally, a memorandum was submitted to the state government through the CEO of the district council, demanding the timely disbursement of salaries for TTAADC staff.
Earlier, the Opposition Leader of Tripura, Animesh Debbarma, also expressed concern regarding this issue and pledged to raise it on the House floor during the upcoming Monsoon Session, commencing on Friday.
He alleged that the state government has intentionally reduced the budget for the TTAADC and has also been delaying the release of funds, due to which not only development work but also the salaries of the staff are getting delayed.
Debbarma added that the BJP-led government is doing this with the intention to defame TIPRA Motha, which is in power in the TTAADC.
