Manipur: Woman shot dead outside school in Imphal West, ITLF condemns incident

Amid the ongoing violence in Manipur that have been raging for over two months now, a woman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants outside a school in Imphal West district today.

She was shot dead near Shishu Niketan school in Kwakeithel, Imphal West.

As per inputs, the deceased lady used to live in a small shed near a church in Lamphel area.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has strongly condemned the incident.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Ginza Vualzong ITLF Media Spokesperson said, “As she was mentally challenged, she was not able to leave Imphal Valley. The disinformation campaign by the state-sponsored IT cell is becoming flimsy every day and does not spare even the mentally challenged,” ITLF said in a statement. The organisation also refuted the false allegations on social media by Meitei propagandists that she was a suicide bomber.

“People also accused that she was a suicide bomber. This is the highest level of the state-sponsored media of spreading false propaganda to the national level, she is not a suicide bomber,” said Vualzong. The organisation once again urged the central government to impose President’s Rule in the state immediately as the state government is not being able to handle the violence and the lives of tribal are in danger.

Situation in Manipur continues to remain volatile with incidents of fresh violence being reported almost every day. Manipur has been on the boil for over two months now since violence broke out in the state between two communities on May 3.
