Two Assam Police cops were booked under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl inside police station
The Officer-in-Charge of Ghagrapar police station in Assam’s Nalbari district has been suspended from service for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl and clicking obscene photographs inside the police station.
Assam DGP GP Singh in a social media post wrote, “Being convinced of the instant case being rarest or rare, and as the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force of Assam, and in accordance with extant law & rules, I have decided to dismiss Inspector (UB) Biman Roy from Assam Police.”
In a strong message and warning to all the police personnel about adherence to the law of the land and to maintain the sanctity of police stations, DGP GP Singh wrote, “This decision shall also send a strong message to all serving police personnel about adherence to the law of the land and the thought process of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam about the shape Assam Police should take to serve the people of Assam. This may also be taken as a warning and advice to all Assam Police personnel, to maintain sanctity of police stations and ensure that police stations remain the safest place for our children and women. Anyone not discharging the duty to keep the citizens safe in police stations especially the women and children shall invariably face similar consequences. I assure the people of Assam that Assam Police shall continue to discharge its duties to the best of its capabilities in the interest of the state and for service to the people of Assam. “When we entered the police service at SVP National Police Academy Hyderabad, it was always taught to us that police station is a temple for all police personnel and the safest refuge for the citizens. Today I am deeply disheartened and anguished at the turn of events. One Inspector has let us all down, the entire Police family stands distraught. I assure the people of Assam that power vested in me as the Director General of Police shall be used to the maximum to ensure that the glory of Assam police remains intact.” GP Singh wrote on twitter.
Two Assam Police officers, one sub-inspector and an Inspector, were booked yesterday under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl and taking her obscene photographs inside the police station.
The accused police officers have been identified as Vishal Kashyap, Sub-Inspector, and Inspector Biman Roy of Ghograpar Police Station in Assam’s Nalbari.
Sub-Inspector Bishal Kashyap is currently kept in reserve close.
Inspector Biman Roy who is the prime suspect in the case is currently absconding.
After the incident, the mobile phones of every policeman at Ghagrapar police station were confiscated. The CCTV footage of the police station have already been collected. The involvement of female police personnel in the harassment case with the teenager is also being probed.
Today, all the policemen will be presented in the special court.
The victim is currently under the protection of the Child Protection Committee.
