Pradyot Kishore, in his address to the gathering, expressed deep concern over the severity of drug abuse, particularly among the youth of the indigenous community, citing the state’s extensive border and through which drugs are smuggled.
He urged the society to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to protect the younger generation from falling victim to drugs.
Pradyot Kishore also highlighted the state government’s commitment to making Tripura drug-free. However, he emphasized the challenges posed by the involvement of certain corrupt politicians in drug trafficking, urging their arrest to effectively tackle the drug menace.
Built at a cost of around Rs one crore, the newly established drug rehabilitation centre has a capacity to accommodate 30 individuals and would operate under the purview of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education of the TTAADC.
In conjunction with the inauguration, an awareness programme on drug and substance abuse was also organized, aiming to further educate and inform the public about the grave consequences of drug addiction.
