In a tragic incident, a 15-year old boy from Silchar was run-over by a Silchar- Guwahati passenger train between Mahur and Phiding on Sunday.
The youth was travelling to Guwahati to attend the ongoing Ambabuchi Mela at Guwahati’s Kamakhya Temple. As per reports, the deceased, Riki Das, a resident of Itkhola in Silchar was on his way to Guwahati with two of his companions.
Riki who had gone to use the public lavatory did not return to his seat for a long time. On noticing his absence for a prolonged duration, his friends began to inquire about Riki’s whereabouts.
It was then that they discovered that Riki had fallen off the train. His friends almost immediately stopped the train and rushed to the spot where he had fallen. Riki who was grievously injured was then taken to the Haflong Civil Hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
