CM Sarma said that some baseless allegations have been levelled in recent social media posts on understanding with some underground leaders of Manipur
Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma has rubbished allegations levelled in some recent social media posts and reports that some Kuki militant outfits in Manipur helped the BJP in the 2017 Assembly elections and even in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In a statement issued in Guwahati today, CM Sarma said that some baseless allegations have been levelled in recent social media posts on understanding with some underground leaders of Manipur. CM Sarma reiterated that there is no engagement with any such elements.
The statement added that 25 armed groups of Kuki/Zomi/Hmar ethnic communities are under SoO in Manipur, signed in 2008 by the then Congress government and the appeal mentioned in the said social media post is written by the self styled chairman of one of these groups who was under investigation for his involvement in the arms pilferage case from the Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifles in 2018.
The NEDA convenor pointed out that it was the BJP government in the state which transferred the case to NIA for investigation, indicating the seriousness in such cases. The involved persons were later charge sheeted by the NIA, which, CM Sarma said, negates any suspicion of any compromise as alleged in the appeal.
The NEDA Convenor and Assam CM added that the said appeal was a desperate attempt by an individual to save himself and any insinuation of understanding with the said individual is baseless and devoid of merit.
It may be mentioned that a purported letter written by Chairman of United Kuki Liberation Front or UKLF SS Haokip back in 2019 claims that the BJP had taken help from the outfit to win the 2017 Assembly elections. Haokip also claimed in the letter that he has been falsely implicated in the arms pilferage case.
