Assam floods: 33,412 people in 14 districts affected

The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim since monsoon hit the state on June 10. Though the number of districts affected has gone up from 13 yesterday to 14 today, the number of people affected has gone down from 37,535 yesterday to 33,412, as per ASDMA report released today.

The affected districts are:
Biswanath, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Kamrup (M), Nalbari.

At least 142 villages have been affected by the deluge, as per the ASDMA data.

Three rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamtighat in Jorhat, Kopili in Nagaon. The Puthimari river is also in full spate and is stated to be flowing above the normal level.

Several incidents of erosion have been reported from several Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara and Udalguri.

1510.98 hectares of crop area have been destroyed by the flood waters.

A total of 17 relief camps have been set up in Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Udalguri.
