Mizoram CM Zoramthanga who had earlier written to his Manipur counterpart has assured all help and support
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Sunday said that his Manipur counterpart N. Biren Singh spoke to him over phone and asked his help in resolving the ongoing violence that has rocked the state for 45 days now.
“Chief Minister of Manipur, N. BirenSingh spoke to me over the phone at 12:30 PM regarding the Manipur ongoing violence asking for my aid in resolving the issue with a hope that henceforth there would be a peaceful co-existence,” Zoramthanga tweeted.
“Furthermore, the request is to take means and measures for the Mizoram Meitei to settle peacefully,” he said in his tweet.
He said that he assured the Chief Minister of Manipur stating that Government of Mizoram “bemoans the ongoing violence” and that it has taken certain steps and measures to abate it.
“I further stated that we are suppportive of the steps taken by the Govt. Of Manipur and the Central Government,” Zoramthanga said, adding, “I also apprised the Chief Minister of Manipur that we, the people of Mizoram are empathetic towards the Meitei and that the government and the NGOs have taken measures for peace and security.”
He said that the Meitei community who are residing in Mizoram have nothing to fear as long as they are in Mizoram and that the state government shall go on to promote safety and security for them.
The Manipur CM had earlier rejected Mizoram government’s proposal to send a peace mission headed by state Law Minister T.J. Lalnuntluanga to go to Manipur and hold consultations with all the stakeholders in the violence hit state.
Besides suggesting the peace mission, during the early days of violence in Manipur, Mizoram CM Zothangsanga had written to his Manipur counterpart extending help and expressed solidarity with the people of Manipur.
Currently, over 11,000 people from Manipur have taken shelter in Mizoram. The Mizoram government has approached the Centre for a humanitarian aid of at least Rs 10 crore so that the Mizoram government can take proper care of the settlers.
Mizoram Minister Robert Romawia Royte and two other senior Mizoram government officials met Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Friday in New Delhi to request for the assistance and the Union Home Secretary assured all help.
