The Court has permitted the SIT team to conduct narco analysis test also known as truth serum test of the suspected accused, if required

The Calcutta High Court has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) team to investigate the death of IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed, who hailed from Tinsukia in Assam.

The three-member SIT team will be headed by IPS Officer K. Jayaram.

The Court has removed the Investigating Officer of West Bengal Police from investigating the case and permitted the SIT team to conduct narco analysis test also known as truth serum test of the suspected accused, if required.

Earlier on June 6, the Calcutta High Court said that Faizan’s death was a case of murder and not suicide as was claimed by the West Bengal police and IIT Kharagpur authorities. The Court ordered Kharagpur police to include Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the death case of Faizan Ahmed.

The Court said this on the basis of the 2nd autopsy that was conducted a few days back in Kolkata after exhuming Faizan’s body on May 22 from the Amolapatty Kabarshthan (graveyard) in Dibrugarh after 7 months since he was laid to rest on October 16 last year.

As per inputs, the exhumed mortal remains of the deceased IIT Kharagpur student will be flown to Dibrugarh in the next three days.

23-year-old Faizan’s semi-decomposed body was found in his hostel room at IIT Kharagpur on October 14 last year.

While the IIT authorities deemed his death a suicide, Faizan’s family claimed it was murder. Faizan, who hailed from Tinsukia in Eastern Assam, was a 3rd-year student of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
