International Yoga Day celebrated across the region

On the occasion of 4th International Yoga Day today, with the the rest of the country and the world, Yoga Day was celebrated across the region. This year’s theme for the occasion was ”Yoga for Peace”.
An event marking the occasion of International Yoga Day was held at Guwahati’s Sonaram Field which was attended by Union Minister Vijay Goel along with many other eminent personalities. The event saw attendance by a huge number of people as they experienced the freshness of practicing yoga in the morning hours.
To mark the occasion various programmes were organised across Meghalaya. The office of the Director of Ayush organised one such programme at the Laban Sports Club in Shillong. Health Minister for state A L Hek was also present at the event.
The state of Arunachal also celebrated yoga day in a programme held earlier this morning in the capital city of Itanagar. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also attended the event at the Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar. Meanwhile, the ITBP jawans were also seen practicing yoga on this day.
Tripura also geared up to observe International Yoga Day along with rest of the region. A special event was held at Khumlung near the state capital Agartala, which was attended by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. State sports minister Manoj Kanti Deb was also present at the event.
The state of Manipur also observed International Yoga Day. A special event was organised at the state capital Imphal which was attended by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. Scores of people attended the programme in the freshness of the morning air. Meanwhile, a special programme was also held at the official residence of Governor Najma Heptullah where she tried some yoga asanas.
With the rest of the region, Sikkim too joined the 4th International Yoga Day. A huge crowd was seen at the Paljor stadium where people from all walks of life including students, police and bureaucrats practised yoga. Governor of Sikkim Srinivas Patil attended as chief guest of the event.
