Mizoram govt forms 19-member Committee for Displaced Persons of Manipur

Almost 9,000 IDPs from Manipur are taking shelter in Mizoram.

The Mizoram government has constituted a 19-member high level committee for the better management of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Manipur in Mizoram. The committee will be headed Mizoram Home and Disaster Management Minister Lalchamliana.
Lalchhandama Ralte, Minister for School Education Department has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman and H Lalengmawla, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Home has been appointed as Member Secretary.
The other 16 members of the committee includes 3 ministers, Mizoram Chief Secretary, other high ranking officials of the state government, representatives of the Central Young Mizo Association, Mizoram Journalist Association and Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitu Committee.
The 16 members are:
- Lalruatkima, Mizoram I&PR minister
- K Lalrinliana, Mizoram Food and Civil Supplies & Cultural Affairs minister
- Robert Romawia Royte, Mizoram Tourism minister
- Chief Secretary, Govt of Mizoram
- Principal Secretary, Finance department
- Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department
- Commissioner and Secretary, General Administration department
- Commissioner and Secretary, Rural Development department
- Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department
- Secretary, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation department
- Secretary, Public Health Engineering department
- DC, Aizawl
- President, Central Young Mizo Association
- General Secretary, Central Young Mizo Association
- President, Mizoram Journalist Association
- One representative from Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitu Committee
As per the government notification, the Committee shall look into various issues relating to the IDPs of Manipur taking shelter is Mizoram. the Committee shall also oversee and supervise the provision of relief and basic humanitarian assistance to the IDPs.
The state government has also formed an Executive Committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Manipur in Mizoram chaired by the state Home Secretary H. Lalengmawia.
According to the terms of reference, the executive committee will take necessary action for the proper implementation of the decisions of the High Level Committee.
The executive committee will also liaise with all the concerned departments to provide relief and humanitarian assistance to the IDPs of Manipur in the state.
Almost 9,000 IDPs from Manipur are taking shelter in Mizoram.
Mizoram is also sheltering over 40,000 Myanmar refugees who fled the neighbouring country for fear of being persecuted by the military junta.
