The Home Minister said that the blockades were restricting food, medicine and other essentials from reaching the people who need them the most at this hour of crisis
Union Home Minister Amit Shah today made a ‘sincere appeal’ to the people of Manipur to lift blockades along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway No 2 and allow the movement of food, medicine and essentials into the state and the relief camps.
Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah also urged the Civil Society Organisations to do everything necessary to bring consensus among different stakeholders so that peace can return to the state.
The Union Home Minister tweeted, “My sincerest appeal to the people of Manipur is to lift the blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur, NH-2 Highway, so that food, medicines, Petrol/Diesel, and other necessary items can reach the people.
I also request that Civil Society Organisations do the needful in bringing consensus.
Together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state.”
The Union Home minister’s appeal comes days after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on June 1 made an earnest appeal to the people of the state not to block roads. The Chief Minister said that such things have been putting lives of people including those of expecting mothers and their child at risk by delaying or holding back the movement of relief material, essentials and life-saving drugs.
He also highlighted that these roadblocks were restricting the movement of security and police personnel from promptly responding to attacks by armed groups.
