A youth from Assam who was onboard one of the ill-fated trains involved in the three-train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday is missing.

As per inputs, the youth has been identified as Hafizur Rahman, a resident of Kalaigaon.

The rescue workers have recovered Hafizur’s mobile phone from the train wreckage and informed his family.

Search for the missing youth is underway, police informed.

The triple train accident involving Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train took place at around 7 PM on June 2 at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Balasore.

17 coaches of the two passenger trains derailed and were severely damaged in the accident.

Restoration work at the accident site is in full swing with over 1000 manpower and the officials are closely monitoring the restoration process, said the Ministry of Railways.

More than 7 Poclain Machines, 2 Accident Relief Trains, and 3-4 Railway and Road Cranes have been deployed.

At least 288 people have died and over 700 injured in one of India’s deadliest train accidents in recent times, railway officials said.
