Floods are wreaking havoc in Assam’s Hailakandi district. Thousands of people affected by the raging flood waters have taken shelter in higher altitude areas and even along the railways lines.
Temporary tents have crept up near the railway line at Katakhal region where flood hit people have taken refuge. People have been scattered in various places looking for higher ground as flood waters continue to rise in Hailakandi.
In the midst of all the news of flood scenario getting worse in Assam, some news of relief are coming from Karimganj. The flood scene in the district has seen some marginal improvement as the water level has gone down by one centimeter in the last couple of hours.
A temporary embankment has been constructed by the bank of the Kusiara river at Karimganj town to control the flood situation. While the Kusiara continues to flow above the danger mark, the reduction of water level by even one centimeter has brought some relief to the people.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while expressing concern over the prevailing floods said that the government is fully prepared to tackle the situation.
