Three kids drown in Tripura’s Khowai River

In a tragic incident, three children, aged 7 to 12 years, drowned in Khowai River in Tripura. They had gone for a bath in the river.

The incident took place at Paschim Ganki’s Poharmura village in the Khowai district on Sunday, police informed.

Another six-year-old boy, Ayan Das, was rescued by his grandfather, who had accompanied all the four children.
The deceased have been identified as Saptadip Nama, 7 (boy), Bablu Rai, 9 (female), and Moutushi Das, 12 (female).

Jugal Tripura, Police officer of the Khowai police station said that at around 11.30 a.m they received the information that three kids had drowned.

“As soon as we got the information, our staff from the police station rushed to the spot and recovered two bodies, while the third body was found after searching for more than one and a half hours. The bodies have been shifted to Khowai district hospital,” the police officer said.

The police officer also informed that they are investigating the matter; however, preliminary reports suggest it is a drowning incident as the bodies were found in the water.

The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the Khowai River by the police with the help of Tripura Fire and Emergency Services personnel, and local residents. The children were immediately rushed to the government hospital, where they were declared dead.

All three deceased are residents of Sepahijala and West Tripura districts.

They had all gone to their uncle’s house in Paharmura to attend a function.
