Insurgency completely eliminated in tribal areas: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

A sea of change has taken place in the last 2 years especially after the dynamic Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed charge as the Chief Minister in 2021.
Assam has embarked on a new journey of peace and prosperity. The shadow of terror created by different insurgent groups is now a thing of the past since the state is now free from the clutches of tribal insurgency.
A sea of change has taken place in the last 2 years especially after the dynamic Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed charge as the Chief Minister in 2021.
The People’s Chief Minister took to Twitter and shared details of misguided youths coming back to the mainstream by shunning the path of violence.
The Chief Minister wrote,”In last 2 years, we have struck at the roots of militancy and firmly put our State on the highway of peace and progress. Insurgency has been completely eliminated in tribal areas and 2,927 youngsters have returned to the mainstream.”
According to the video posted by the Chief Minister in his twitter handle,
- 2,927 extremists surrendered in the last 2 years. The list of arms, ammunition and explosives deposited includes:
- 1,020 weapons
- 15,474 rounds of ammunition
- 115 grenades
- 22 IEDs
- 33.05 kg explosives

Worth mentioning here that on April 27 this year, the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) signed a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Assam government in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It marked the end of tribal insurgency in the state, as the DNLA was the last know tribal rebel group which was active.
It was then the Assam Chief Minister had informed that on January 27, 2020, around 1,615 cadres from the Bodo tribe laid down arms and on September 4, 2021, over 1,000 cadres from the Karbi Anglong abandoned the path of violence. On September 15, 2022 under Union Home Minister’s presence, 8 Adivasi insurgent groups laid down arms and on 27th April 2023, the armed outfits from the Dimasa tribes also surrendered its arms.
Indeed a significant achievement for Himanta Biswa Sarma during his tenure as the Chief Minister, who has been making relentless push for peace and take everyone onboard towards development and transformation.
