In another case of illegal migrants entering the Northeast, three Nigerians were spotted in the Sonatala area of Khowai district in Tripura. The trio was later detained by police on suspicion that they entered the state illegally.
Locals of the area informed the police after spotting the three Nigerians in the area, following which the police rushed to the spot and interrogated them. The Nigerians, however, failed to show any valid documents. Police later found Nigerian passports and visas from Bangladesh in their bags.
On further interrogation, it came to light that the Nigerians had illegally entered Tripura from Bangladesh through the Belonia border in the southern district of the state. The Officer-in-charge of the Khowai police station further said that their passports have been seized and a case has been filed against them.
