The committee would be headed by Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. It will have members from other political parties. It will review the Roster System and give recos if any

The Meghalaya government on Friday decided to put on hold all new recruitments and job advertisements and a committee would be set up with members from other political parties to review the Roster System and make recommendations if any. The committee would be headed by Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said after the all-party meet on Roster System.

“Most of the political parties have seen the presentation and are satisfied seeing what the details are. Concerns have been raised and some clarifications have been sought. Hence, we have decided that in order to ensure that all different concerns that are there are clarified, a committee is proposed to be set up which will be chaired by our Honourable health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and different members from different political parties will be in it”, CM Sangma said briefing reporters after the meeting in Shillong today.

On the timeline of the committee to submit its findings, CM Sangma said that the Terms of Reference for the committee are being worked out, but the government wants to complete the process at the earliest.

Regarding the government’s decision to put on hold any new recruitment until the Committee files it’s report, CM Sangma said, “In the meantime our members from different political parties have requested that till this committee will give us report or will have a final sitting in the next few days, they have suggested that if we can keep any new advertisements on hold. Based on that we have agreed to that as the government we will keep things on hold”.

CM Sangma informed that most of the political parties were satisfied with the presentation made by the government and the steps taken.

Regarding the demand for the government to look into recruitments made in the past as well as to cancel such appointments, the Meghalaya Chief Minister said that all such decisions were taken as per the Reservation Policy and hence they were legal binding on the government. “Hence the question of us going back and looking at it and cancelling or making adjustments does not arise,” said Chief Minister Sangma.

A detailed presentation was made by the government on the Roster System.

VPP, the main Opposition party that has been raising objections and demanding all recruitments be put on hold with immediate effect, staged a walkout.
