PNG School was selected as one of the six schools for direct interaction with the Prime Minister during his walk-through of stalls on National Technology Day
Four girls from Paljor Namgyal Girls’ School, Sikkim, have developed an artificial intelligence device to prevent road accidents.
The four girls, Gitanjali Chettri, Aniska Rai, Sneha Kumari, and Suja Limboo, under the guidance of their science teacher Ivan Lepcha, have developed the AI device given the fact that the number of road accidents at NH-10 that passes through the state has been rising. The National Highway has sharp curves and hair-pin bends that make driving very risky.
The device, once installed in the car, would automatically give voice alerts and inform the driver about the curves and condition of the road in line with the National Road Safety Policy.
Speaking to Northeast Live Aniska said that the device was developed to prevent the road accidents at NH- 10 which occurs mostly due to the driver not being able to detect the curve or failing to take the turn at the right time.
“Our project identifies the blank curves and alerts the driver when turns are approaching. We added an extra feature- if the vehicle falls of a cliff this device automatically sends SOS message asking for relief,” the student added.
Earlier, on May 14, the group of girls displayed their innovation at Pragati Maidan premises in New Delhi during the National Technology Week held from May 11–14. PNG School’s stall was the first stall that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited during the Technology Week.
