The students have been suspended until further notice
Two students of the Sikkim University including the General Secretary of the Sikkim University Students Association (SUSA) have been suspended until further notice for their alleged misconduct and inappropriate behaviour during the May 10 protest.
The students who have been suspended are:
Debraj Chettri- GS, Sikkim University Students Association and MA Political Science (4th Semester) and
Akhand Pratap Singh- MA Hindi (4th Semester) student.
Worth mentioning here that the students on May 10 had protested against alleged failure of the authorities of the institute to re-open the centralized and subsidised canteen by May 8, installation of a sanitary napkin vending machine as well as other issues related to the students.
However, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, Professor Avinash Khare, speaking to Northeast Live, had wondered as to why the students were agitating despite their demand being fulfilled by the University authorities.
The VC had said that the Univerity authority earlier informed the Sikkim University Students’ Association (SUSA) that a new location and vendor was identified to build the new canteen, however on May 4, the plot’s owner who had previously agreed to rent it out to build the canteen had backed out, therefore the authority would open the canteen on May 11 instead of May 8.
