The Centre has drawn up some tough measures to reign in militant cadres under the Suspension of Operations in Manipur in the wake of the recent violence in Manipur
Adopting what can be termed as a zero tolerance policy towards violation of SoO ground rules, the Centre has directed the arrest of cadres found moving outside their designated camps and seizure of their weapons, highly placed official sources told Northeast Live.
Not only this, surprise checking of camps is also being conducted to verify the cadres and weapons present. The Centre has also decided not to pay monthly stipend to cadres who are not present in the camps. Besides, it was also decided that the joint monitoring group meets will be held regularly to warn the SOO groups against violation of ground rules.
Moreover, the government is also appealing to the tribal CSOs to urge the cadres under SOO to return to their camps. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh has also informed that the Joint Monitoring Committee consisting of the state and central forces had been taking steps to ensure return of SOO cadres to their designated camps.
