The decision to distribute spices through PDS comes after the government’s decision to distribute pulses as well as locally produced tea through PDS.
In a bid to further stregnthen the Public Distribution System (PDS) and also provide some sort of relief to the common man, the Tripura government from May 16 (Tuesday) will be distributing spices through PDS at subsidised rates.
The four different types of spices to be distributed through 2050 Fair Price Shops (FPS) are chilli, cumin, coriander and turmeric powder, Tripura Food and Civil Supplies minister Sushanta Choudhury said adding that Chief Minister Manik Saha will be formally launching it on May 16.
The decision to distribute spices through PDS comes after the government’s decision to distribute pulses as well as locally produced tea through PDS.
More than 9 lakh families holding ration cards will be benefitted.
Chowdhury also informed that the spices shall be supplied by a local entrepreneur who is a spice producer who has been selected through the tender process.
He added that the state government also has plans to provide other necessary items at subsidised rates through PDS and very soon shall start distributing edible oil.
The Tripura Food and Civil supplies minister said, “We are already providing items like sugar, salt, dal, we will also provide mustard oil. We will be providing these items through ration shops so that people do not have to pay more.
In the coming days we will strengthen the PDS system. We will also hear about the issues faced by the ration dealers who are the strength behind a good PDS system and take steps accordingly.”
