Mizoram CADC poll results: MNF wins 10 of the 19 seats

Voting for the Rengkhashya constituency will be held on May 17. Election was cancelled in this constituency as BJP candidate for the seat Amit Kumar Chakma was killed

The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) won 10 of the 19 seats in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) elections held on May 9. The BJP won 5 and the Congress won 4 seats, while Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) drew a blank in the CADC polls.

Elections were held for 19 of the 20 seats as voting for the Rengkhashya constituency had to be cancelled after the BJP candidate for the seat Amit Kumar Chakma was killed in pre-poll clashes allegedly between BJP and MNF supporters.

Voting for the Rengkhashya constituency will not be held on May 17.

The last date for filing nomination for the Rengkhashya seat is Friday, May 12. But no candidate has filed nomination till today. Counting of votes will be held on May 19.

The voter turnout for the polls was 94 per cent. The MNF, BJP and Congress had fielded 19 nominees each for 19 seats, while the ZPM had fielded 13 seats.
11 is the majority mark to form a government in the Council.
The council has a total of 24 members, of which 20 are elected and 4 are nominated.
