Assam: 2 murder convicts escape from Silchar Central Jail

The escapees have been identified as--Hifzur Rehman, hails from Karimganj and Deep Nunia, a resident of Gungoor in Silchar

Two murder convicts serving life sentences at the Silchar Central Jail in Assam escaped by digging a hole in one of the prison walls late yesterday night, May 10.

The escapees have been identified as–Hifzur Rehman, who hails from Karimganj and Deep Nunia, a resident of Gungoor in Silchar.

As per inputs, Hifzur Rehman was convicted in 2013 for killing 20-year-old college student Ahrar Ahmed alias Naz in 2011.

Deep Nunia was found guilty of killing a person in Badarpur in 2018.

Police has filed an FIR regarding the matter and launched a massive manhunt to nab the escaped inmates, said Cachar SP, Numal Mahata.
