Assam CM will watch the Kerala story on May 11 along with his cabinet colleague and family members

Amid the row over the movie ‘The Kerala Story, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that he will watch the movie on April 11.

“I will watch the Kerala story on May 11 along with my cabinet colleague and family members,” the Assam CM said.

The statement by the Assam Chief Minister comes amid strong opposition from the Congress party against the release of the film.

Earlier, the Assam CM launched a scathing attack on the Congress for opposing the release of the film.

“There is a new film, The Kerala Story, which reveals many things. When the BBC made a film on Modiji making false claims, the Congress was in favor of it. But today the same Congress wants a ban on The Kerala Story,” Himanta said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Congress is standing with terrorists.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor accused the film’s makers of indulging in “gross exaggeration” and “distortion” of the state’s reality.

“The Kerala Story” has sparked controversy for claiming 32,000 women from Kerala were being converted to Islam and recruited into ISIS.

Various political parties in Kerala have also criticized the movie for promoting “love jihad” conspiracy theory of right-wing Hindu groups.

The Censor Board issued an “A” certificate to “The Kerala Story” and deleted over 10 scenes with one of them an interview with a former Kerala chief minister.

‘The Kerala Story’ stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in lead roles. The film is directed by Sudipto Sen.

The film hit the theatres on May 5.
