The merger documents were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, along with the two PDF MLAs, Gavin Miguel Mylliem and Banteidor Lyngdoh
In a big boost to the ruling NPP in Meghalaya, the regional party PDF today merged with the NPP.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma termed the merger between the People’s Democratic Party and NPP as a wedding ceremony, with the love story starting a long time back.
He stated, “For the last 5 years, the NPP and PDF have known each other. Both parties get along well and see things from the same perspective. We have the same goals, visions, and ideas for our people and our state.”
Highlighting the close collaboration between the NPP and the PDF MLAs, Gavin Miguel Mylliem and Banteidor Lyngdoh, on various state issues, the Chief Minister expressed his jestful inquiry as to why they belonged to separate parties. He said, “When we see everything together, when we realized that we work so well, and our ideas are the same, there is no reason why we should be in two different parties.”
He further added that although the merger had been a lengthy process, it was conducted in good faith.
Describing the merger as a significant milestone, Chief Minister Sangma expressed that it should have taken place long ago despite the challenges and differing circumstances. Seizing the opportunity, he warmly welcomed all leaders and supporters into the NPP. Furthermore, he highlighted that the NPP is now recognized as one of the six national parties in the country, emphasizing that it is the only party from the North East to receive national recognition.
The merger between the PDF and NPP marks a turning point in the political landscape of the region, as these two parties, known for their shared perspectives and common objectives, unite their efforts to work towards the betterment of the people and the state
