Assam: 20-yr old raped inside a car, filmed; 3rd rape incident in Assam in 5 days

The horrific incident was reported from Gohpur in Sonitpur district of Assam, the five accused have been arrested

Barely two days after the heinous rape and murder of a minor in Assam’s Tinsukia district, another shocking case of rape has been reported from the state. This time a 20-year old girl was reportedly abducted by 5 men from her house last night and raped her inside a car. The men filmed the entire incident.

The horrific incident has been reported from Gohpur in Sonitpur district of Assam.

The police said, “At around 1 AM a young lady came and filed an FIR stating that she was raped and the incident was filmed. After that we swung into action and carried out search operation. We managed to arrest 5 persons. Only 1 has admitted to have committed the crime, and others said they attempted to rape her and had filmed the incident.”

The five arrested accused are-Puranchadgwra Basumatary (alleged mastermind), Bipul Basumatary, Songkhor Basumatary, Sohen Goyari and Vijay Musahary.

Worth mentioning that this is the third case of rape reported in Assam in just 5 days. No doubt it is raising serious concerns about the safety and security of women in the state and also about the mental state of certain section of men.

On May 4, Assam woke up to the horrific news of a 12-year old child raped and murdered and body dumped inside a septic tank. The rapist and murderer was known to the child. The child had gone missing in Margherita in Tinsukia district of Assam on May 2.

On May 2, eight men had gang-raped a pregnant woman and her niece. The ladies were waiting by the roadside in Assam’s Nagaon district for public transport when the 8 men approached them.

In April, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by a group of 9 men and left by the roadside in Assam’s Hajo. The victim was allegedly drugged and raped by the group of men while she was on her way to Dhemaji from Guwahati’s Khanapara.
