67 Meghalaya students brought back from Manipur; more to be evacuated today and tomorrow

Meghalaya Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh is in Imphal overseeing the safe evacuation of students from Manipur
The first batch of students from Meghalaya studying in Manipur have reached their home state safely. In what can be termed as the first stage of the evacuation plans, a group of 67 students studying in the Central Agricultural University in Imphal landed in Guwahati late Friday evening.
As per available inputs, another batch of 36 students studying in the same institute will also be evacuated on Sunday, while 8 students studying at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) are likely to be brought back today.
Earlier, on Friday Meghalaya health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh spearheaded the evacuation as she along with a few government officials headed to Imphal to oversee the process. Lyngdoh has advised the students to call the helpline number, and disclose their locations and addresses.
The Army, Manipur police as well as the Manipur government is coordinating with the Meghalaya government in the exercise.
In a tweet, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed happiness that the students are coming back home safe.
The Meghalaya government is also expecting other airline operators to help in the evacuation process alongwith Indigo Airlines. According to reports the Meghalaya government is in close contact with the Aviation ministry and all private airlines for this purpose.
Although the exact figure is not known, but close to 200 people from Meghalaya, mostly students, are stranded in Manipur.
