If you shoot us with one arrow…: NPP to UDP

Even if the UDP is out of the government, it wil not affect the government, said WR Kharlukhi
Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi, the president of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya, said that the United Democratic Party (UDP) will be thrown out of the government if it tries to change the government after the by-polls in Sohiong Assembly constituency.
The NPP state president said that he heard that the UDP during its by polll campaign in Sohiong has been claiming that there would be a change in the government after the Sohiong by-election.
WR Kharlukhi said, “If you shoot us with one arrow, we will also have have to shoot you with another. If UDP is having that mentality that after the by polls they want to take the government away from us, it is quite natural that we will throw them out of the government.”
He further stated that even if the UDP is out of the government, it wil not affect the government.
He has also exuded confidence that NPP will win Sohiong.
Kharlukhi said that after the recently concluded Assembly general election also UDP tried to keep NPP out of the government, “but the UDP did not succeed and we were able to form the government. Even after that NPP had allocated the UDP two ministers in the Cabinet since they came begging to NPP”
It may be mentioned here that Conrad Sangma-led coalition government was sworn in March this year for a second term.
The NPP emerged as the single-largest party in Meghalaya winning 26 seats out of the 60 constituencies that went to vote on February 27. UDP won 11.
Thirty-one is the number needed to form government in a 60-member Assembly. Even if UDP is thrown out or leaves the NPP-led government, NPP will still have 2 each of BJP and HSPD, two Independents and the PDP MLAs.
