Tripura govt signs 8 MoUs worth over Rs 312 crore during investment summit in Agatala

In a big boost to the state’s economy, the Tripura government today signed as many as 8 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s worth investment of Rs. 312.38 crore in the state in the next few years.

The MoUs were signed on the sidelines of the Tripura Roundtable on Investible Opportunities- an investment summit attended by around 141 investors. Among the key projects to come up after the signing of the MoUs, includes a Medical College to be set up in Dhalai district at a cost of Rs 247 crore.

The Roundtable on Investment Opportunities is part of the Northeast Global Investors Summit to be held at New Delhi in the mid of this year to attract investment in the NE region by promotion its scopes and advantages.

The investors belong to various sectors including – rubber based industry, plywood industry, mechanical agarbati rolling, medical and skill education, BPO, warehouse, hospitality, agro and milk processing.

During his address on the occasion, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that his government has already decided to provide subsidies such as investment subsidy, 15 percent procurement subsidy, industrial promotions subsidy, power subsidy, partial reimbursement of interest on term loans, one time full reimbursement of standard certificate charges or fees, employment cost subsidy, export promotion subsidy, state promotion subsidy on secondary raw materials at 50 percent for attracting investors to the state.

Besides, Chief Minister Saha also pointed out that infrastructure is the basic for any kind of investment while he referred to PM Narendra Modi’s HIRA (Highway, Internetway, Railway, Airway) connecting Bangladesh and South East Asia.

Meantime, investors also expressed their satisfaction over the support from the state government in addition to the congenial environment for investment in the state.

They believed that in the coming years, Tripura will become India’s Gateway to South East Asia with the operational of multi-connectivity avenues through neighbouring Bangladesh.
