In a successful crackdown on illegal poachers, three poachers were arrested in Salbari in Assam’s Baksa district on Saturday.
The forest department, acting on a tip-off, arrested three poachers in Labdanguri area, near Manas National Park.
The three arrested have been identified as Balendra Gayari, Munindra Basumtary, and Dimbe Gayari.
The Forest Department, led by Zonal Forest Officer Nayanjyoti Pathak of the Manas Tiger Project Office, arrested the three poachers and recovered a tiger skin weighing 7.150 kg along with tiger bones.
The international market value of the tiger bones is estimated at Rs 20 lakh.
Earlier, the Assam government said that the state government will step up its anti-poaching drive by increasing the strength of staff members, foresters, and forest guards inside the park and adding an additional outpost to ensure that no rhino is killed in Kaziranga National Park.
It may be mentioned here that a rhino horn was found on March 24 and another horn was seized on April 14. Both horns were seized from Nagaon.
Assam reported the first case of rhinoceros poaching with the carcass of a one-horned rhinoceros found at Bagori Range in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on March 26.
Assam reported zero rhino deaths in 2022.
