A new development comes in the case of the killing of police officer Bhaskar Kalita during a recent encounter with ULFA (Independent) militants has come in.

The Assam government has appointed Mukut Phukan, Deputy Secretary to the Revenue & Disaster Management Department as the secretary to the one man enquiry committee headed by Kumar Sanjay Krishna. The committee is looking into the effectiveness of the bullet proof vest worn by Kalita during the encounter at Bordumsa.

Bhaskar Kalita, the officer-in-charge of the Bordumsa police station in Assam’s Tinsukia district, lost his life during the encounter against ULFA-I militants in May. Kalita succumbed to bullet wounds inspite of wearing a bullet proof vest raising questions on the effectiveness of the bullet proof vests being used within the Assam Police.
