A large number of candidates who had appeared for Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) staged a protest today in Agartala demanding early declaration of the results.

The candidates want the results to be declared without any further delay because they fear that any further delay in announcement of the results would render a lot of them ineligible for government jobs as they would grow older and cross the eligibility age.

The agitators said that many of them are from very poor families and completed their education including B. Ed qualifications after selling their properties or taking educational loans and are now under pressure.

They said that for nine months the result of the STGT examination are not being published and earlier also they had agitated on the same issue.

The agitators urged Chief Minister Manik Saha to take initiative in resolving the issue as the education department cannot do anything till the government does not take a decision on the matter.

The agitators said that around 172 ST candidates had appeared for the STGT examination while the number of vacant posts reserved for them is 230.

All total some 9000 candidates appeared for the JRBT held in the September 2022 and according to RTI reply in November last year there were total 5304 vacant posts for STGT teachers.

It may be added here that last month the High Court of Tripura in its judgement to a review appeal of the state government stood by its earlier ruling asking the state government to maintain the reservation category at the ratio of 51 percent for general, 17 percent for SC and 31 percent for ST and in the recruitment of candidates through the JRBT.
