The Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) have resumed peace negotiations with the Centre. The negotiations were suspended following the June 2 Assam Rifles raid on the residence of one of the top NNPG leaders V Nagi.

However, following appeal from Naga tribal bodies and civil society groups, the NNPGs decided to resume the peace negotiations with the Centre.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live over the phone from Delhi, NNPG leader Alezo Venuh said the NNPG leaders had a fresh round of negotiations with Central interlocutor R N Ravi at New Delhi yesterday thus ending its decision to suspend the talks following an Assam Rifles raid on the residence of its co-convener.

Top NNPG leaders also told Northeast Live that the Centre has taken the issue of raid at the residence of V Nagi very seriously and has assured that such incidents will not be repeated in future.

All six NNPG leaders were present in the negotiations. Meanwhile, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio who has been camping in Delhi since Saturday, discussed the issue with top Central leaders.

The decision of the NNPG working committee to suspend negotiations with the Centre following the Assam Rifles raid had dealt a big blow to the Naga peace talks. However, resumption of negotiations by the six rebel groups who form the NNPG has certainly put the talks back on track.
