Summer is here, and what better way to beat the heat than with some refreshing drinks that also provide health benefits? Assam has an array of ethnic drinks that can cool down your body and mind. In this article, we will introduce you to five of these drinks that are easy to make and taste delicious.
1. Nemu Pani: The tangy summer drink to beat the heat
If you are looking for a tangy summer drink that can quench your thirst, then Nemu Pani made from Kaji Nemu (the refreshing aroma will refresh you) is the perfect choice. This Assam lemon is rich in vitamin C and can help boost liver function and metabolism while lowering blood cholesterol levels.
To make this drink, cut the lemon in half, squeeze it, and mix it with black salt, sugar, and some ice cubes. You can also add some mint leaves for a refreshing twist.
2. Thekera Tenga: The prominent sour fruit to keep you cool
Thekera Tenga, also known as Garcinia, is a sour fruit that is commonly used as a souring agent in Assam. It is a great summer drink that can help relieve symptoms like headache, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.
To make this drink, soak four to five pieces of dried Thekera in a glass of water for about two hours. Drain the water and mix it with black salt or sugar and some ice cubes. You can adjust the sweetness and sourness as per your taste preference.
3. Bael Sorbot: The Juice for a Healthy Summer
Bael, also known as Wood Apple, is a fruit that is said to have benefits for the stomach and digestive system. Drinking Bael sorbot in the morning can also help prevent sunstroke.
To make this drink, wash the bael, cut them, and take out the pulp. Mix the pulp with double the amount of water in a utensil and mash it. Sieve the mashed pulp in a heavy strainer and take out the juice by pressing it with a spoon. Add salt and cumin powder to taste.
4. Bhim Kol: Boost your immunity with this indigenous banana drink
Bhim Kol is an indigenous variety of bananas found in Assam that is great for boosting immunity. You can make this healthy tonic by scraping the pulp of one or two bananas with a spoon. Mash the pulp and soak it overnight in two glasses of water. Consume the water the next morning or during the day by adding some jeera powder and salt to taste or you can consume it just like that.
Bhim Kol has seeds, therefore you have to scrape the pulp or you can mash the whole banana with the seeds and strain the water.
5. Kordoi Tenga: Sweet and sour star fruit drink for a refreshing summer
Kordoi Tenga, also known as Star Fruit, is an amazing sweet and sour beverage that can give you all the summer coolness you need. It is a tropical fruit with great health benefits and can help you relax.
To make this drink, either grate the star fruit or grind it in a mixer grinder. Strain the pulpy juice and mix it with sugar or sugar syrup and water and a dash of salt. Serve with some ice for a refreshing twist.
In conclusion, these ethnic Assamese drinks are not only delicious but also healthy and can help you beat the summer heat. So, try them out and stay cool this summer!
